Fattoush

Fattoush (Lebanese/BYOB), www.fattoushrestaurant.com:

2652 N. Halsted St., 773-327-2652

Fattoush was temporarily closed, but has re-opened!  The menu has changed but according to the website is still primarily gluten-free.  I haven’t had a chance to check it out since it re-opened but I will report back as soon as I do.  Here is my original review:

It had become my safe haven for gluten free eating so I am keeping my fingers crossed that it re-opens.  The wife of the owner (who recently passed away, which is why they are currently closed) has Celiac and is extremely sensitive, so nearly everything in the restaurant is naturally gluten free.  The cuisine is Lebanese – think falafel, hummus, shawarma, kebabs, etc.  They offer some gluten options, but they are prepared in a separate kitchen.  They bring in gluten free pita bread from Rosa’s Bakery in Evanston and, personally, I like it better than regular pita bread.  I have had nearly everything on the menu at least once and have never been disappointed.
